Bio
Dr. Laura born and bred in south louisiana with the majority of his family working
in the oilfield. He started his educational endeavors by obtaining a Bachelor’s of
Science in Biomedical Engineering at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana.
The biomedical engineering department aims to prepare its students for careers in
the biotechnology, medical device, and pharmaceutical industries with course loads
that include engineering materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, biomechanics,
mass transport, and biomedical signals and systems. Dr. Laura went on to attend Louisiana
State University School of Medicine and received his medical degree in 2012. Dr. Laura
then completed his internal medicine residency, cardiovascular disease (2018) and
Interventional Cardiology Fellowship (2019) at LSU Health Sciences Center – New Orleans.
Throughout his career he has multiple case reports and case series presented at the
American College of Cardiology Southern Regional Meetings; was awarded outstanding
fellow of the year by both Touro Infirmary Crescent City Physicians and the LSU Internal
Medicine Section of Cardiology, and spent multiple years working on various clinical
quality improvement projects dealing with heart failure and the positive predictive
value and outcomes of stress testing at the University Medical Center of New Orleans.
Dr. Scott Laura is currently an attending physician in the Department of Medicine
in the Section of Cardiology and the associate program director for the section of
Interventional Cardiology.
As a practicing physician and biomedical engineer by training, Dr. Laura observes
the challenges and obstacles interventional cardiologist are tasked with when completing
complex procedural cases. Being well versed in the latest standard of care and the
up-incoming procedural techniques, Dr. Laura has a realistic and down to earth approach,
improving the quality of patient care and establishing more efficient, safe and efficacious
therapeutic strategies for individuals undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
or endovascular procedures.
