Bio

Dr. Pandey received his PhD in Medical Genetics from the Department of Medical Genetics at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, India in 2005. Dr. Pandey conducted his postdoctoral training in Dr. J Paul Taylor’s laboratory in the Department of Neurology at University of Pennsylvania where he studied molecular pathogenesis of spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy and was subsequently promoted to a staff scientist position in 2007. Dr Pandey decided to relocate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN along with his postdoctoral mentor Dr. Taylor in July 2008. Dr. Pandey accepted an Assistant Professor position in the Department of Genetics at LSUHSC in July 2009.

Research Interests

The principal goal of our research is to develop a therapeutic intervention for neurodegenerative disease. In order to achieve our goal, we are:

  • Utilizing Drosophila melanogaster as a model system (fruit fly) to apply the power of genetics to understand the pathogenesis of neurodegeneration
  • Investigating the role of protein degradation pathways in neurodegeneration
