CITED TWICE FOR EXCELLENCE
Stephanie Laurent has been selected as a recipient of the 2002 Pfizer Award for Excellence in Research, Education, Patient Care, and Community Outreach at the LSU Health Sciences Center. The awards are a program of the Foundation for the LSU Health Sciences Center. They are meant to recognize individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty to make the Health Sciences Center a better place to learn, conduct research, provide patient care and community outreach. Each year these awards are given to 25 employees who are chosen on the basis of nominations from fellow workers. The chosen 25 are then honored at a luncheon and are each given $1,000. This year's luncheon will be held on October 25th at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel. Earlier in the year, Stephanie was selected "Administrator of the Year" in the School of Medicine. She was chosen from 18 nominees who were, in turn, selected from a field of 62 administrators working in the basic science and clinical science departments. The covered honor is awarded annually as a way to recognize outstanding ability. This is based on responsibility and integrity exhibited by a cooperative nature, proactive approach, problem-solving ability, accuracy, accountability, and knowledge of policy and procedure. The selection committee was comprised of four members from the Chancellor's Administration and five members from the Dean's Administration of the School of Medicine. The award was presented by Dr. Robert Marier, Dean of the School of Medicine. The reception was hosted by Greg Meier, CPA, Associate Dean for Fiscal Affairs, School of Medicine. "This has been quite a year," Laurent said. Stephanie was promoted to Business Manager in the Department of Genetics, according to an announcement made by Dr. Bronya Keats, Chairman of the Department. The promotion comes on the heels of two awards for excellence: one presented by the LSU School of Medicine and the other presented by the Foundation at LSUHSC and underwritten by Pfizer, Inc. Stephanie graduated from the University of New Orleans with a B.S. in accounting in December, 1999. Two months later, she became the assistant business manager in the Department of Genetics. Actually, this was a promotion since she worked in the department as an administrative specialist for three years. Stephanie has been affiliated with LSU Health Sciences Center since 1994 when she started as a student worker in the Department of Physiology. Her responsibilities include managing $3 million in research grants and an annual departmental budget of $500,000. She coordinates all day-to-day administrative and personnel functions for 30 faculty members and staff. She is also in charge of purchasing, procuring goods and services of a highly technical nature and coordinating graduate school admissions. She and her husband, Paul, are proud parents of Samantha, born in 1998. |
