Our Neurosurgical Residency is one of the 94, fully accredited by the ACGME, programs in the United States for Neurosurgery training. Since its inception in 1968, nearly 40 residents have been trained. The neurosurgical portion of the training is six (6) years in length and one resident per year is accepted. This neurosurgical training is preceded by a year of postgraduate training in general surgery which has to be done at LSU. This year will be designed to include emergency medicine, critical care, anesthesia, adult neurology, as well as general surgery.
