Psychosomatic Medicine at LSU New Orleans

The Psychosomatic Medicine fellowship at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans began in 2009, and is fully accredited by the ACGME. It builds upon a well established psychiatry consultation service with its roots back into the historic Charity Hospital, prior to Hurricane Katrina.  When University Hospital, now known as the LSU Interim Hospital, reopened in November of 2006, the LSU psychiatry consultation service was present on day one, covering the floors and the emergency room. There is now a separate emergency consultation service, and the psychosomatic medicine fellowship has expanded to include specialized outpatient services in addition to the daily consultation-liaison work inside the 250 bed LSU Interim Hospital. The LSU Interim Hospital is an ideal location to train in Psychosomatic Medicine, with a collegial atmosphere and fascinating consultations. The Psychosomatic Medicine Clinic is a subspecialty clinic for the LSU Interim Hospital. Research and teaching opportunities abound for interested fellows. The Psychosomatic Medicine faculty members provide daily supervision and mentor fellows in career formation.
