HOLIDAYS
Holiday schedule depends on the Hospital of Rotation.  In general holidays are: Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, New Years, Martin Luther King, Mardi Gras, and Easter.

ANNUAL LEAVE (Vacation): PGY 1s receive 3 weeks, and PGY 2-4 receive 4 weeks.

EDUCATIONAL LEAVE:  PGY 2-4 receive 5 days. SICK LEAVE: Fourteen days including weekends per year.

MALPRACTICE COVERAGE: The State of Louisiana provides professional liability coverage to House Officers when acting within the scope of their training.

MATERNITY LEAVE:  Covered under sick leave policies. If the amount of maternity leave is in excess of accumulated sick leave time, annual leave and/or leave of absence without pay will be used.

MOONLIGHTING:  Structured moonlighting opportunities exist and might be covered by the LSU malpractice plan. Any PGY-II's may be eligible for moonlighting at LSU Interim Hospital if they have passed USMLE Step 3.

BOOK/TRAVEL ALLOWANCE:  Dependant on budget, residents are provided a $300.00 book allowance per year by Ochsner Medical Center. Also depending on budget, senior residents are allowed up to a $1,200.00 travel allowance for educational purposes.  Regulations ppply.  Travel must be prior approved by department managers only.

LAB COATS / PAGERS:  Residents are provided a lab coat on orientation day as well as a pager free of charge.

RESIDENT LUNCHES/MEALS:  Lunch is provided twice per week to residents at Ochsner Medical Center. Meal tickets are provided to residents when on call at LSU Interim Hospital.

PARKING:  Parking is provided free of charge to residents at each rotation site.
