The main clinical sites are as follows:

  1. Community Mental Health Services: Services include two Mental Health Clinics for children and adolescents (Algiers Mental Heatlh Center and the LSU Behavioral Sciences Center) with outreach programs such as family preservation, services, a step-down transition program, and an assertive community outreach (ACT) program.
  2. Children's Hospital of New Orleans: Children's Hospital serves as the regional pediatric center for this area. It is a 175 bed facility that is JCAHO approved and affiliated with LSU Medical School. Child and Adolescent psychiatry consultation-liaison is run by the LSU child and adolescent psychiatry faculty and the child and adolescent psychiatry residents. The Children's Hospital Inpatient Services includes a 24 adolescent bed and a 5 child bed inpatient psychiatric unit, which was established in 2007 and expanded to include child beds in 2009.  Modalities of treatment include psychopharmacology, milieu therapy, group and individual therapy, family therapy, and activities therapy. 
  3. Infant Consultation Teams/Harris Infant Mental Health Training Program: LSU has a multidisciplinary team of professionals (child and adolescent psychiatry, social work, developmental psychology, and clinical child psychology) under the direction of Dr. Joy Osofsky. This section consist of a number of program that provide services to infant to early preschool age children and focuses on the evaluation and care of infants and toddlers (ages 0-3 years) and their caregivers. The infant team works in Orleans Parish and Plaquemine's Parishes and rural areas of Louisiana. This group assess, treats, and does follow-up on infants and toddlers in foster care (under the auspices of the Office of Community Services). This team, along with Joy Osofsky's numerous
    Grants, including the Violence Intervention Project (V.I.P.), Safe Start, and the LSU Infant, Child, and Adolescent Psychiatry division. They have been and have currently several Federal and Nonfederal grants (The Harris Grant's principle investor is Howard Osofsky, M.D., Ph.D.). The work of this group on trauma and trauma intervention methods is nationally and internationally recognized.
  4. Other:  On-Call experience at Children's Hospital 1-6 days per week.  Predominantly a consultation call from Pediatrians with an occaional having to go to the hospital to see the patient.

The first and second year residents have an opportunity to choose from a number of electives.
