Welcome to the web site for the LSU School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology. You will see that we emphasize postgraduate education in anesthesiology and opportunities to develop clinical and research skills in all aspects of anesthesiology and pain medicine.
LSU has one of the largest CRNA training sites in the United States. In October 2008, we were approved by the Residency Review Commitee (RRC) for an independent anesthesia residency program, which will begin July 1, 2009. Though we have had damage from Hurricane Katrina at all three of our clinical hospitals in New Orleans, Charity, a level one facility that is internationally known for trauma, Univeristy Hospital, and Boggs Hospital, we are excited to be serving the New Orleans community at a number of different hospitals and facilities. We are currently serving the New Orleans community at University Hospital, Ochsner Medical Center-Kenner, NorthShore Surgery Suite, and NorthShore Regional Medical Center.
Our department is home to a strong interventional pain program and a state of the art ultra rapid detox program for opioid dependent individuals. We are very fortunate to have a strong simulation section that is funded in part by an NIH grant.
New Orleans is a vibrant city with many activities including Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. We are optimistic about our future as the city rebuilds. We welcome inquiries and hope this site gives you some sense of the flavor of our department, which although continuously evolving, remains close-knit and informal.
