Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) - "AOA"

Our organization is called the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and is composed of men and women at the levels of undergraduate, graduate, faculty, and alumni who are or have the promise of becoming leaders in our profession.  As stated in our constitution, we are organized for the promotion of scholarship and research, the encouragement of a high standard of character and conduct, and the recognition of high attainment in medical science, practice and the related fields.  We have in common the ability to recognize and nurture human needs in our community.  This character is the foundation behind the meaning of the Greek letters AΩA, being the initials of the essential words of our motto:

2010 9:30:05 PM  =  Be worthy to serve the suffering

AΩA was founded in 1902 by William Webster Root, then a medical student at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Chicago.  It is the only national honor medical society.  There are currently over 120 active chapters in the United States and Lebanon.  The Beta of Louisiana Chapter within LSUSOM at New Orleans, or LA-Beta, was chartered in 1949.

Welcome to our website.  We invite you to learn more about AΩA and our Chapter by exploring the site, and feel free to contact us at any time.  May you find your path in life, work hard every day to prove your worth to your patients, and never forget what a privilege it is to practice medicine.
