A cardiac-specific promoter conferring antibiotic resistance to Neomycin was used in the derivation of cardiomyocytes from mouse embryonic stem cells. After antibiotic selection, this group of cardiomyocytes was easily identified by their contractions.

The winner of the
Chancellor’s Award for Graduate Study 2005 is
Steven White, MD/PhD
He received the award for his dissertation work under the supervision of
Dr. William Claycomb.
The award was delayed due to the disruptions following Hurricane Katrina.
