Allison L. Berrier, PhD, earned her BS in Chemistry from Lafayette College (1990) and her doctoral degree in Microbiology from Columbia University (1998), where she studied mechanisms involved in regulating gene expression in the immune system. She was a postdoctoral fellow and Research Associate with Dr. LaFlamme at Albany Medical College, where she focused on the role of the integrin b-tail in regulating cellular behavior and later became as a Research Associate. In 2004, she joined the LSU Health Sciences Center’s School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy. Shortly thereafter, she became a member of the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium and was named a Distinguished Faculty Member of the School of Dentistry’s Center of Excellence in Oral and Craniofacial Biology. After Hurricane Katrina, she worked on cell-matrix biology in the laboratory of Dr. Yamada at the NIH National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) as a Katrina Visiting Faculty Scholar. In 2008, she Dr. Berrier she joined the School of Dentistry as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Biology with a secondary appointment in the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. Her research focuses on the role of cell-matrix interactions in oral cancer adhesion signaling, invasion, and migration and is aimed on revealing potentially novel therapeutic opportunities.
