The Louisiana Cancer Control Partnership (LCCP) is a Centers of Disease Control-funded initiative that is co-sponsored by the LSUHSC School of Public Health. The LCCP is comprised of over 200 individuals and 100 organizations, all sharing an interest in reducing the incidence, morbidity, and mortality of cancer on Louisiana, and improving the quality of life for its citizens. The original goal of LCCP was to develop a statewide comprehensive cancer control plan, which was unveiled in August 2004.
The major activities of LCCP are to build local and regional cancer control coalitions, build the capacity of local CBOs, pilot a patient navigation program, develop local transportation systems, prepare strategies to address gaps on colorectal cancer screening, conduct a statewide Sun Safety program, and quantify and analyze the burden of cancer in Louisiana. The latter is performed by the Louisiana Tumor Registry, which compiles and publishes statistics that break down the incidence of cancer according to race, sex, age (for childhood cancer) and geography.
LCCP has regional staff and lead cancer coalitions in all nine regions, and publishes an online cancer activities calendar. Additional information, including a list of the Regional Cancer Control Officers, can be found at www.lcltfb.org.
