Bio Upon receiving his doctorate, Dr. Greer became a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service in 1965 and worked at the CDC field station laboratories in Kansas City, Kansas on pulmonary mycoses until 1968. After termination of his military service, he joined the Tulane University International Center for Medical Research and Training located in Cali, Columbia, South America. Dr. Greer developed the medical mycology program at Universidad del Valle in Cali, Columbia in both the clinical and research areas. He founded the first clinical mycology laboratory in the University Hospital in Cali. In 1977, Dr. Greer was honored as full professor at the Universidad del Valle. He returned to New Orleans in 1981, but continued to teach his courses in medical mycology to sophomore medical students in Cali until 1983. Dr. Greer became the director of the TB and Mycology clinical laboratories at Charity Hospital in 1981. It was the first time that Charity Hospital had a functional clinical mycology laboratory. The laboratory is now recognized as the mycology reference laboratory in the state of Louisiana. Dr. Greer received his full professor status in 1988 and retired in 2001. Dr. Greer is a member of the International Society of Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM), the Medical Mycology Society of the Americas (MMSA), the American Society of Microbiology (ASM), the American Society of Infectious Diseases (ASID), and the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). He was honored by the MMSA with the Billy Cooper Meridian Award for Lifetime Achievement in Medical Mycology. He has served on numerous committees and positions within his specialty. Because of his work in clinical research on diagnosis and treatment of Dermatophyte infections of the hair, skin and nails, Dr. Greer was selected to join the speakers' bureau of several international pharmaceutical corporations, in particular, Janssen Pharmaceutical, Inc. traveling widely and lecturing to physicians around the world.
