Chabert Medical Center (CMC) is the 2nd largest hospital within the LSU state system, second only to Charity/University Hospital in New Orleans. CMC is located in beautiful Houma, La, approximately 65 miles southwest of New Orleans. Residents will rotate for two months during PGY 1 on the Internal Medicine service. Resident responsibilities include Q3 in-house call, supervision and teaching of medical students, and medical management of admitted patients. Residents can expect to have considerable autonomy and will be expected to run their own independent medicine service under faculty oversight. The CMC medicine rotation provides an intensive, thorough introduction to the practice of Internal Medicine. The breadth of pathology and high acuity level at CMC is legendary amongst LSU Emergency Medicine residents.
Residents also have the opportunity to rotate through the ED and MICU. ED volumes exceed 35,000 per year with an admission rate of nearly 20%. All core ED faculty are boarded in Emergency Medicine and the staff include a number of highly experienced Physician Assistants. CMC is in the process of expanding its available subspecialty services and will start a new in-house Internal Medicine residency program in July 2008.
Housing, parking and meals are provided during rotations.
