WELCOME TO A FUTURE IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE!

The Advanced EM elective is designed to prepare you for an exciting future in this ever-changing specialty.  At LSU, our aim is to provide you with outstanding clinical exposure and high-quality education in a variety of forms.  During this clerkship, your responsibilities will include:

  • clinical shifts in multiple areas the Main Emergency Department of University Hospital - a Level I Trauma Center that currently sees 90,000+ patient visits/year;
  • dedicated ultrasound, hyperbarics, and toxicology shifts;
  • weekly didactic sessions that include a variety of educational methods - case based, traditional lectures, skills and simulation labs
  • residency and career advising services from LSU academic faculty and residency program leadership

For those students wishing to explore one of the many subspecialties of EM, we also offer dedicated 4-week rotations in Ultrasound, Hyperbaric Medicine, and Research.

MEDC 434a - Senior Elective in Emergency Medicine (write "U/S," "Hyperbarics," or "Research" next to course number)

Housing

Several of our residents have generously offered housing at reasonable prices to visiting students.  There is limited availability; if you are interested please contact Dr. Avegno ASAP.  We will also help you to secure short-term housing in the New Orleans area if necessary.
