Karen E. Friday, MD, is a physician with expertise in the areas of endocrinology, women’s health, lipid metabolism, preventive cardiology and nutrition. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes through the American Board of Internal Medicine, Clincal Lipidology through the American Board of Clinical Lipidology and Nutrition through the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists. She received her undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition at Michigan State University in East Lansing, and earned her medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Friday then completed a residency in General Internal Medicine at Baltimore City Hospitals/Francis Scott Key Medical Center/John Hopkins University and a senior research fellowship in Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Nutrition at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Friday has served as a principal investigator in clinical trials and translational research. Dr. Friday served as the Clinical Core Director of the Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health from 1999 to 2006. She is a member of the American College of Physicians, The Endocrine Society, the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association and the National Lipid Association. She has authored or co-authored abstracts and articles appearing in such journals as Experimental Biology and Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Diabetes Care, and the Journal of Lipid Research.
