This first-of-its-kind contest (“Contest”) will allow the children of South Louisiana to voice their opinions and feelings on health and healthy lifestyles in a way that is open and non-threatening. This format encourages students to exercise their natural inquisitive nature in exploring health and healthcare policy issues. Presently in the United States, and particularly in Louisiana, there are many controversial issues surrounding health and medical delivery systems. Children have not had a voice in articulating what they may like to see in the next few decades in health advances. Furthermore, with the increase in childhood and adolescent obesity rates, children in the South Louisiana region may have very strong opinions about health and healthy lifestyles.
