Janis Gissel Letourneau, MD
Associate Dean of Faculty and Institutional Affairs

Dr. Janis Letourneau is Associate Dean of Faculty and Institutional Affairs and Professor of Radiology and Surgery. She is a diplomate of Stanford University’s undergraduate and medical school programs. While in medical school she was a fellow in the NIH-sponsored Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), doing basic neurophysiology research with Donald Kennedy, PhD, an internationally renowned biologist. She completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology in 1983 at the University of Minnesota and subsequently stayed there on the faculty, specializing in ultrasound and related clinical research, particularly in the areas of solid organ transplantation and peripheral vascular disease. She has published over 175 scientific papers and chapters and has edited two books. She continues to teach at in the undergraduate and residency programs at LSU and at post-graduate courses. Dr. Letourneau has been at LSU School of Medicine since 1993 and has been Associate Dean since 1996.
