Geriatric Medicine Fellowship

LSU School of Medicine offers two Geriatric Medicine training opportunities.

The LSU Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program in New Orleans is a year-long concentrated and longitudinal experience available to Family Medicine and Internal Medicine residency graduates. Clinical experiences include geriatric consultation service, geriatric psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, specialty clinics, elective/research, PACE, a longitudinal clinic and nursing home experiences. Under the direction of Dr. Charles A. Cefalu, clinical and research mentors and faculty guide fellows through the experience. With satisfactory completion, fellows will be board eligible in Geriatric Medicine after being certified in their respective primary specialty of Family Medicine or Internal Medicine. The LSU Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program at University Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana is a one year clinical fellowship with experiences in primary care of geriatric patients, long-term care, palliative care, geriatric psychiatry, multiple subspecialty clinics, rehabilitation, and inpatient and outpatient geriatric consultation.  University Medical Center is a community-based hospital affiliated with the Louisiana State University School of Medicine.  Any Family Medicine or Internal Medicine resident interested in Geriatric Medicine is invited to apply.  This program is accredited by ACGME and graduates of the program will be eligible to obtain a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatric Medicine. For more information, please contact Dr. Lainie Moncada at 337-261-6690 or lmonca@lsuhsc.edu
