Resident Selection Process: The LSUHSC University Hospital and Clinics, Lafayette Family Medicine program is looking for well-rounded individuals who are both highly qualified and eager to continue their education. Competencies in both clinical and procedural arenas are highly regarded. All applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). Applications are received during the months of September through December, with interviews scheduled during the months of October, November, December and January.
Employment Outlook: Primary care, as a whole, has seen a dramatic surge in employment opportunities. Family medicine has particularly seen this surge secondary to the diverse nature of its clinical and procedural scope. Lafayette and its surrounding areas offer many job opportunities to graduating residents. The majority of our residents have found employment by the end of their 2nd year.
Competitiveness: There has been a rising need for family physicians throughout the nation. Thus, the competitive nature of this field has seen an increase. Graduates will be competitive in all areas of family medicine secondary to the diversified educational experience of the program. The combination of a large and diverse patient volume, advanced pathology, and resident autonomy make the program unique. We continue to strive for consistent academic and clinical excellence in both our faculty and residents alike. These standards along with our faculty, facilities, and location make this residency program a very strong option in an applicant’s search.
Letters of Recommendation: A minimum of three, with at least one submitted by a Family Medicine Attending will be accepted.
Application to the Louisiana State University (Lafayette) Hospital and Clinics, Family Medicine Residency Program should be through the Electronic Residency Applications Service (ERAS).
