Alain enrolled as a graduate student in August 2005 and is currently doing a rotation in Gene Therapy and Pulmonary Medicine in the lab of Dr. Judd Shellito. The major goal of the lab research is to investigate host defense mechanisms against pulmonary infection, with particular interest in how immunosuppressive conditions such as AIDS and alcohol consumption may increase host susceptibility to infections of the lungs. Alain was born and raised in Bombay, India (now called Mumbai). In 1998, he received a Bachelor's degree in Zoology and Biochemistry from St. Xavier's College in India. Two years later, he received a Master's Degree in Biotechnology from the University of Mumbai. In 2003, he received a second Master's Degree in Medical Genetics from University of Glasgow, Scotland.
