Elisa Ledet began her graduate work at LSU Health Sciences Center in August, 2006, as a member of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program. This program allows new students to rotate among laboratories in five basic science departments before deciding on a permanent course of study. Elisa chose the Department of Genetics in March 2007, and she is currently working in the laboratory of Dr. Diptasri Mandal where the research focus is the genetic epidemiology of complex diseases and cancer. Elisa was born and raised in Cut Off, Louisiana. In 2005, she earned the Bachelor of Science degree magna cum laude in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Humanities from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. She also completed the curriculum of the NSU University Honors Program. Upon graduation, she worked in public health for a year so as to better understand the public health issues facing the people of Louisiana following the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina. |
