Mission of the Genetics Center
Genetics is fundamental to all biomedical disciplines and therefore to improving
the health of mankind. The mission of the LSU Health Sciences Center New
Orleans Center of Excellence Center of Molecular and Human Genetics is
to:
- Facilitate interdepartmental collaborations and communication in order to
develop outstanding and integrated genetic programs in research, teaching,
and clinical services, and
- Promote genetics throughout the community.
Two major components of the LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans Center
of Excellence Center of Molecular and Human Genetics are:
Goals of the Center for Molecular and Human Genetics
- To expand and improve genetic research by fostering interactions and collaborations
among faculty members in all Departments and in other Centers of Excellence
at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans.
- To provide clinical genetic services which take advantage of the latest
advances in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
- To improve training and education in genetics at medical, graduate, and
postdoctoral levels through the development of interdependent programs
that are eligible for accreditation by the American Board of Medical Genetics.
- To augment the contribution of genetics to clinical medicine and biotechnology
in Louisiana.
- To attract increased funding for genetics from corporate, foundation, and
governmental sources.
- To educate the community on the relevance and importance of genetics to
health care.
