Bio

Dr. Elmongy earned his medical degree from Cairo University, Department of Medicine, and he completed his residency in Internal Medicine and his fellowship in Hematology/Medical Oncology at Tulane’s School of Medicine. He completed an additional fellowship in the Leukemia and Bone Marrow Transplantation Program at Vancouver General Hospital and the British Columbia Cancer Agency, Vancouver, Canada.

In 1992, Dr. Elmongy became Director of the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program and Assistant Professor at Harrington Cancer Center, Texas Tech University Health Science Center. He also served as Chief of Hematology at Texas Tech affiliated VA Medical Center.

He returned to New Orleans in 1994 to become Director of the Leukemia, Blood, and Marrow Transplantation Program at Memorial Medical Center, where he developed the first accredited program and one of the most successful programs in the region -- a program recognized for its reputation, patient outcome, volume, and revenues.

In 2002, he started the cancer program at Kenner Regional Medical Center and served as its director for two years. Following this, he spent three years working on clinical & Translational research for oncology drug development including molecularly targeted compounds.

Dr. Elmongy was selected as one of America’s Top Rated Specialists in Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation by the Center for Study of Service in 1999. He was selected by New Orleans Magazine as one of the top oncologists in New Orleans in 2000, 2001, and 2003. He received the Spirit Award from the American Cancer Society in 2003.

In 2007, he joined the faculty of the University of Florida’s Sands Cancer Center, where he was Associate Professor of Medicine in Hematology/Oncology and Director of the Solid Tumor Clinical Research Program.

Dr. Elmongy joined the faculty of LSU School of Medicine in 2008. He ihas been board certified in Internal Medicine since 1988 and in Medical Oncology since 1989.
