Bio

Susan M. Weyer received her MD degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas.

She returned to New Orleans to spend seventeen years in private practice. During these years she also served as Chief of Medicine at Meadowcrest Hospital and Chief of Medicine at Jo Ellen Smith Hospital.

In 1998, Dr. Weyer became Medical Director of the Senior Health Centers for Touro Infirmary, a position she held until the facility closed two years later.

In 2000, Dr. Weyer became joined the staff of Ochsner Foundation Hospital as Medical Director of the Geriatric Center, where she was also involved in training residents. That same year she was awarded Ochsner’s “Community of Caring” Award. The Geriatric Center closed in 2002 and Dr. Weyer accepted an appointment as Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at Tulane University Hospital and Clinic/School of Medicine. During that time she also worked with the Geriatrics Program at LSU Health Sciences Center, the Medical Center of Louisiana, and the VA Hospital. In their August 2003 edition, New Orleans Magazine named Dr. Weyer one of the “Top Internist in New Orleans.”

When these facilities closed following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Dr. Weyer accepted a position with the West Jefferson Medical Center Family Doctors. In March of 2008, she began working with Van Meter and Associates, an Emergency Medicine medical group. She joined the faculty of LSU School of Medicine in November of 2008.

Dr. Weyer is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, the Louisiana Geriatrics Society, the New Orleans Academy of Internal Medicine, The Louisiana State Medical Society, and the Orleans Parish Medical Society, where she has been elected to several offices, including a year as president. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and in Geriatrics.

Clinical Interests

The diagnosis and care of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
