Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program

The Infectious Diseases Section offers a two year program of postgraduate training in infectious diseases to provide trainees with a solid foundation leading to a career in clinical or academic medicine. A third research year is offered for those who desired more intensive research training. Two fellows are accepted per year. The structure of the program is flexible and varies according to the needs of the individual fellow and may include alternative training experiences appropriate to his or her long term career goals.


General Requirements

Each fellow has a approximately 12 months of clinical service and 12-24 months of research/elective time during the two year program and consists of:

  • ID consultation service at the Medical Center of Louisiana and LSUMC affiliated hospitals
  • ID consultation service at Touro Infirmary
  • ID consultation service at Ochsner-Main Campus
  • ID consultation service at Ochsner-Kenner
  • ID outpatient clinic
  • OPH STD clinic
  • Clinical microbiology laboratory at the Medical Center of Louisiana
  • ID conferences
  • Clinical electives
  • Research opportunities


Application for Fellowship Position

If you are interested in applying for a fellowship position, we use the ERAS system at http://www.aamc.org/audienceeras.htm. We require:

  • current curriculum vitae
  • two letters of recommendation (at least)
  • personal statement
  • ECFMG certification (if applicable)
  • USMLE scores

We select candidates through the medical specialty match program at AAMC.
