Drs. Besch and Wilcox Receive Awards for Work in HIV/AIDS

Congratulations to Dr. Lynn Besch and Dr. Ronald Wilcox, who both received prestigious awards given annually by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration

Dr. C. Lynn Besch, Associate Professor in the Section of Infectious Diseases, received the Gabe Kruks Memorial HIV/AIDS Service Award. Dr. Besch serves as director of the HIV Division of LSUHSC-New Orleans and statewide clinical lead for the LSU HCSD HIV Disease Management Program.

Dr. Ronald Wilcox, Assistant Professor in the Section of Infectious Diseases and the Department of Pediatrics, received the AIDS Education and Training Centers Award. Dr. Wilcox is the program director and principal investigator for the Delta Region AIDS Education and Training Center in New Orleans and a staff physician with the LSU HIV Outpatient Program.

These awards are given annually to individuals who have demonstrated noteworthy skill and innovation in implementing the programs and services of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program to improve the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS.
 

Dr. Cacky Hebert Receives Award for Excellence in Education

Dr. Catherine (Cacky) Hebert received the very first Dean Robert S. Daniels Faculty Award for Excellence in Medical Education, which was presented in conjunction with the Drs. Robert S. Daniels and Vikki Ashley Annual Distinguished Lectureship in Medical Education on September 18, 2008. The award is in recognition of those select faculty members who have achieved the highest degree of excellence in medical education.

Dr. Charles Cefalu Appointed JAMA Representative

Dr. Charles Cefalu, Chief of the Section of Geriatrics, has been appointed the American Geriatrics Society's representative to the American Medical Association's House of Delegates.

Dr. Charles Sanders Receives SSCI Founders' Medal

Congratulations to our chair, Dr. Charles Sanders, who received the prestigious SSCI Founders' Medal for his many years of contribution and loyalty to the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation. The award was presented at the SSCI Annual Business Meeting and Plenary Session on Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Hotel Intercontinental in New Orleans
