Adrian Arbour, MD - Patient care – nominated by Drs. Hebert and Kamboj - ”...Her excellent work ethic and medical knowledge allowed her to provide the best patient care and save the life of the patient.” and  “It was impressive to watch this resident in her second month of her second year take charge of some very sick patients and do such a great job!”
 
 
 
 
Matthew Jordan, DO – Interpersonal and Communication Skills– nominated by Dr. David Borne – “Matt has done an excellent job on the Detox unit since his very first day. He works well with all the clerks, nurses and social workers as well as the case managers. The staff have told Dr. Hart and myself how well he works on the unit. He has done a good job with all the patients that one sees on the unit as well.”
 
 
 
 
 
David Klibert, MD – Professionalism – nominated by Dr. Najy Masri – David agreed to cover the on-call activities at KRMC for another resident who had a family emergency.   
 
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

September 2010 Core Competency Champions

Everyone: Please join me in recognizing Deepu Thoppil, Adrienne Arbour and Rehan Mohammed for being outstanding examples of the ACGME Core Competencies.

Deepu Thoppil, MD – Medical Knowledge – Deep did an outstanding job of diagnosing rabies in a patient that had been transferred to UH with cardiac instability. Deepu went out of his way to contact experts on rabies and arrange for his patient to undergo appropriate diagnostic testing and treatment.        

 

 

 

 

Adrienne Arbor, MD -  Patient care – Adrienne worked in conjunction with Dr. William Cefalu (section chief - endocrinology) in the IM-DM clinic to diagnose and  treat a diabetic patient suffering from glucose toxicity. The patient’s diabetes is now under control and the patient’s quality of life has much improved. Dr. Cefalu had high praise for Adrienne’s hard work and dedication to evaluate and treat the patient’s malady.   

 

 

 

                                                                                                                                      Rehan Mohammed, MD – System-Based Practice – Rehan spent the better part of a year developing and refining  the process through which our core lectures are now being  recorded as podcasts on iTunes for access by residents and faculty.  The program is in the process of linking the iTunes podcasts to the LSUHSC IM website.  At present the lectures can be downloaded through iTunes using the  podcasts  --- education icons.

Everyone: Please join me in recognizing Shane Guillory, Gretchen Yandel, and Derek Vonderhaar for being outstanding examples of the ACGME Core Competencies.

1) Shane Guillory, MDProfessionalism – “Shane stepped up and volunteered to see additional patients even though he was not scheduled to see the patients. As such, a situation was avoided to having patients wait longer than expected and the other house officer was able to concentrate on the tasks at hand…"

 

 

 

2) Gretchen Yandel, MDPatient Care – “Decisiveness, consistently demonstrating her abilities as an efficient and effective problem-solver whether dealing with complex clinical issues in clients complicated with multiple co-morbidities, or administrative issues such as bed control and appropriate prioritization of care with client turnover, infection control practices, technology utilization, etc.”  “Excellence in communicative skills, unfailingly displaying tact, caring, and a valuation of two-way communication in dealing with clients, family members, nursing staff, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members, and clearly incorporating information acquired into her decision-making process …’

 

3) Derek Vonderhaar, MDSystems based practice – for his participation with Dr. Charles Hilton in the American College of Surgeons Comprehensive Education Institute Re-Accreditation site visit involving LSUHSC Learning Center’s simulators and procedure laboratories.

 

 

 

April 2010 Core Competency Champions

Everyone: Please join me in recognizing Jess Duet, Le Nguyen, and Rebecca Delahoussaye for being outstanding examples of the ACGME Core Competencies.

1)      Le Nguyen is being recognized for her excellent Patient Care at Touro Infirmary. I have received praise and positive feedback from her peers and superiors regarding the medical care she has been providing to her patients there. 

 

 

 

 

2)      Rebecca Delahoussaye is recognized for her outstanding work with Dr. Engel in reviewing MKSAP questions with the residents on Tuesday afternoons. – Medical Knowledge 

 

 

3)      Jess Duet is recognized for her dedication and hard work in assisting Drs. Amoss and Masri in establishing the Hospitalist track for the LSU IM program. – System Based Practice
