
As featured in "This Week in Internal Medicine" for June 5, 2009, Jess Duet was nominated for the Intern of the Year for 2008-2009, and Theepha Thaya won Resident of the Year for 2008-2009. Congratulations to both of them!
The Intern and Resident of the Year Ceremony was begun in 1978 to recognize those House Officers who best exemplify the ideal, outstanding and model patient care provider at Medical Center of Louisiana. This ceremony is funded and presented by the Medical Staff of Interim LSU Public Hospital.
Dr. Theepa Thayalakulasingam has been chosen as LSU Resident of the Year for MCLNO. Theepa embodies all of the qualities of an ideal resident. She is a great physician, and a great leader, teacher and scholar.
Theepa is a leader in the internal medicine residency program. She is held in the highest regard by her fellow residents and is often sought out for her intellectual input and support by her colleagues. She has supported the educational mission of our institution through her involvement with the introduction to clinical medicine course for LSU medical students.She teaches 2nd year students the proper techniques to gather historical patient information and how to perform proper physical exam techniques. She has been praised by her students for being a great teacher.
Theepa has demonstrated her continued scholastic aptitude by presenting a case at research day this year. She has volunteered to organize the internal medicine journal club for the following year. Her superior performance, clinical judgment, superb work ethic and excellent teaching skills have made her the most deserving recipient of “LSU Resident of the Year at Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans.
