Section of General Internal Medicine

The Section of General Internal Medicine is primarily a clinical section in the Department of Medicine at LSU. All clinical faculty members participate in the teaching and patient care activities of the section. Dr. David Borne is the Section Chief. The mission of the Section of Comprehensive Medicine is:

  • to provide excellent clinical care and service to patients.
  • to provide excellence in teaching in principles of General Internal Medicine and Preventive Care to medical students and house officers.
  • to participate in community outreach efforts to provide health education and promote wellness in the communities we serve.

Curriculum

Teaching activities of the section include:

  • attendance on inpatient and outpatient services
  • ethics course for medical students (Dr. Amoss, co-director)
  • out-patient clinics at the Medical Center of Louisiana, which is a residency run, staff-supervised indigent clinic for Charity Hospital (Drs. Eubanks, Hebert, and Hart serving as the primary attending staff)
  • acute inpatient medical detoxification unit in the Medical Center of Louisiana, the only community indigent in-patient acute detox unit
  • physical examination component of the Intro to Clinical Medicine course for second-year medical students (Dr. Hebert, director)
