CSI 101 – Skills Lab # 3

Assessment of Vital Signs and Pain Scale
(Required)

 

OBJECTIVES/COMPETENCIES At the end of this lab, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate and review pulse assessment in the adult and pediatric patient.
  • Demonstrate and review temperature assessment for adult and pediatric patients.
  • Demonstrate and review respiratory rate assessment in the adult and pediatric patient.
  • Demonstrate and review blood pressure assessment in the adult and pediatric patient.
  • Demonstrate and review pain scale assessment for adult and pediatric patients.

 

Read the vital signs and pain assessment handout and read Bates (11th Ed) textbook pages 105-140, 780-783 & 828-832 (E-Book Link: pages 105-140, 780-783, 828-832) prior to the session.  Also review the PowerPoint presentation on Skills Lab 3, which may be printed out as a handout.  Take on-line pre-test, then print and bring to scheduled lab session.  (If you have difficulty opening PowerPoint: Download, Save then Open).

EQUIPMENT: Bring your sphygmomanometer and stethoscope to lab. (not required) 
 
DRESS: Wear a short-sleeved shirt so a classmate can easily take your blood pressure
