SPM 100 Skill Lab #3:BLS-2 small

Basic Life Support Certification

OBJECTIVES/COMPETENCIES  At the end of this lab, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate and review basic level airway technique: chin lift and jaw thrust of adult and pediatric patients.
  • Demonstrate and review mouth to mask ventilation and oxygen delivery devices: cannula, venti-mask and 100% non-rebreather
  • Demonstrate and review closed chest compressions and pulse assessment (radial, brachial, and carotid pulses) of adult and pediatric patients.

Read the Required AHA BLS textbook prior to the session.  Take on-line pre-test, then print and bring to scheduled lab session.

  Required Textbook:    Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers: American Heart 
                                    Association (AHA),  2010;  Dallas Texas.  Purchase textbook in the 
                                    LSU Bookstore.
