Bio	Michael E. Carey, MD, Professor of Neurosurgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, and Director of Surgery for the LSU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center of Excellence has practiced neurosurgery in New Orleans since 1970. In recent years Dr. Carey has specialized in the surgical treatment of epilepsy, operating on more than 200 patients with this disability and achieving at least a 70% success in eliminating temporal lobe seizures. Dr. Carey also performs spine surgery. He is internationally recognized as an expert in brain trauma, arising from his service as a neurosurgeon in Vietnam. He has been highly decorated by the Army for his efforts. For many years Dr. Careys laboratory at LSU did significant brain trauma research funded by the U.S. Army. He has written extensively on brain trauma, military neurosurgery, brain infections and, lately, on subjects related to epilepsy.
