Bio

 

Martha J. Brewer, MD is Associate Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Director of the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at LSU in New Orleans. Dr Brewer is originally from Greenwood, Mississippi. She earned a B.A. in Philosophy from Sweet Briar College in Virginia and did graduate work in Philosophy at the University of Georgia. She attended the University Of Mississippi School Of Medicine in Jackson, Mississippi and was President of the junior class, graduating in 1979. She did her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency in Jackson Mississippi at the University Hospital there. She was elected Secretary Treasurer of ACOG District VII Junior Fellows in 1982. She was the chief administrative resident and received the Robert S. Caldwell award from the Mississippi State Medical Society in 1983. Dr. Brewer was in the private practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the New Orleans and Metairie areas since 1984. She served as the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Humana Hospital, New Orleans and Lakeside Hospital, Metairie. 

Fulfilling a career-long dream, in 2005 she accepted an appointment as Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. In Little Rock she was appointed Director of the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 2007 she returned to New Orleans as Associate Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology at LSU. In 2008 she was appointed Director of the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at LSU. Dr Brewer is a member of the medical staff at LSU Interim Hospital, Children’s Hospital and Touro Infirmary. She serves on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at MCLANO.

Dr Brewer is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She was board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1985 and voluntarily recertified in 1996 and 2007. She is also a member of the North American Menopause Society.
