Dr. Waggenspack was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He completed an undergraduate degree at LSU in mechanical engineering, graduating summa cum laude, prior to graduating from LSU School of Medicine – New Orleans in 2002. He finished residency in emergency medicine at University of Texas-Southwestern and Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas in 2005. His sports medicine fellowship training was completed in 2006 at the San Jose Family Medicine program in San Jose, California, one of the older and most well-established primary care sports medicine fellowships. After finishing his training, he worked on the Mississippi gulf coast in private practice with Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists before joining the LSU Health Sciences Center as faculty in 2008. He holds a dual appointment as Assistant Professor in the Emergency Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery departments. Through the LSU Sports Medicine program, he currently serves as a team physician for several area high schools. His clinical and research interests focus on non-surgical treatments of musculoskeletal injuries, both acute and chronic, as well as concussion management in athletes. |
