To prepare an individual who has completed his/her residency in Orthopaedic surgery for a career in the subspecialty of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery.
The Fellow is appointed as an instructor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center (New Orleans), as a member of the attending staff at Children's Hospital. The fellowship provides an opportunity for the refinement of clinical skills in the field of pediatric orthopaedics. There is opportunity for both clinical research at Children's Hospital and basic research activities at LSU Medical Center.
Independent activities include supervision of clinics and surgery at affiliated institutions. Residents from LSU, Garden City Hospital, Ochsner Foundation Clinics, and the University of South Alabama programs rotate through Children's Hospital, so that the Fellow has an active interface with residents as well as with senior staff. Participation in the team approach to multidisciplinary conditions is stressed.
This Fellowship is ACGME accredited.
