Bio

Dr. Giovanni Lorusso is a native New Orleanean who attended the University of New Orleans and Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans.  He became interested in teaching during his pathology residency at LSU.  He completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, and a sub-fellowship in renal pathology/electron microscopy, and joined the faculty of the medical center in 1994.  He concentrated in cytopathology and became board certified in 1996.

He is currently a practicing anatomic pathologist with general surgical pathology and cytopathology experience.  He has been the course director for the LSUHSC Sophomore Pathology course since 1995.  As course director he has been a driving force in implementing technological advancements in the teaching curriculum.  He designed and developed the web-based curriculum for the pathology course, including digital organs, video clips, and virtual slides on the website.  The LSU pathology course was one of the first in the nation to use “Virtual Slides” (digitized microscopic slides) on examinations.
