Eligibility and Selection:

Resident eligibility and selection criteria are outlined in the LSU School of Medicine House Officer Manual. In addition to those criteria, the program director and one or more senior residents review applications from individuals applying for the pathology residency program. Based upon this review of grades, personal statement and recommendations invitations for personal interviews are issued. During the interview process candidates meet with the program director, department head, a variety of faculty and as many residents as possible. Upon the completion of all interviews faculty, residents, department head and program director meet and draw up the match list.

LSU Health Sciences Center Requirements for House Officers:

  • Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
  • Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States who have received a currently valid certificate from the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States licensing jurisdiction.
  • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States who have completed a Fifth Pathway Program by an LCME-accredited medical institution.

 

Application Process

  • We ONLY accept  applications through ERAS.
  • Must have passed Steps I & II of USMLE. No minimum score.
  • Graduates 2002 or later.
  • For FMG we only accept J-1 visas.
