REAL - Mission:

Improve adolescents' access and utilization of comprehensive, accessible and youth-friendly sexual and reproductive healthcare services by enhancing knowledge, expanding training and growing advocacy capacity of current and future healthcare providers.

Youth in Louisiana experience higher than average rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancy, both of which can have lasting consequences and negatively impact health and social outcomes. REAL is dedicated to working from the ground up to reduce these rates and better the future for Louisiana youth. Through presenting and sponsoring continuing medical educational (CME) sessions and workshops by nationally respected reproductive health organizations as well as the implementation of a clinic-based training program REAL seeks to educate current and future medical providers about the importance of creating and supporting best practices in adolescent sexual and reproductive health.

Program Goals:

Increase adolescent sexual and reproductive health services available in youth-friendly clinical environments

Expand school-based STI testing services and comprehensive sexual/reproductive health education

Support provider training and continuing medical education in sexual and reproductive health

Grow current and future medical providers capacity to be advocates for adolescent sexual and reproductive policy that best serves all young people in Louisiana and the gulf south region.
