Educational Activities and Conferences

  1. Morning Reports are held at Children's Hospital 4 days per week. During this conference, the most interesting new admissions are presented by the admitting residents.
  2. Radiology Conferences are held twice weekly. A board-certified pediatric radiologist reviews x-rays from patients on the wards and from teaching files.
  3. Noon conferences are held at Children's Hospital 3 days per week.  Attendance at 75% of noon conferences is mandatory, with a few exceptions.  Lectures are given by staff and designed to cover contemporary pediatric topics in preparation for the Pediatric Board Exam.
  4. The LSU Department of Pediatrics presents Grand Rounds weekly on Wednesdays, with presentations by local as well as visiting faculty.
  5. Weekly clinical case conferences are held at Children's Hospital.
  6. Morbidity and Mortality conferences are held quarterly. Journal Club takes place quarterly as well. Residents volunteer to lead the discussion, which is held at various local restaurants.
  7. Pediatric residents are required to attend all conferences except when caring for critically ill patients. They are expected to participate in clinical presentations and to lead several topic discussions during training.
  8. All senior residents (PL 3 & MP 4) are encouraged to attend the New Orleans Pediatrics Board Review, which is given each year by pediatric subspecialists from throughout the region to pediatricians preparing for their certifying examinations. Teaching material from the Board Review is also utilized by LSU faculty during the academic year.
