Pediatrics Residency Program

Educational Activities and Conferences


1.Morning Reports are held at Children's Hospital 4 days per week.  This conference includes case presentations by the residents/chief residents, Evidence Based Medicine presentations, monthly Child/Sexual Abuse presentations, as well as other special topic presentations throughout the year.

2.Noon conferences are held at Children's Hospital 3-4 days per week.  Attendance at 75% of noon conferences is mandatory, with a few exceptions.  Lectures are given by staff and designed to cover contemporary pediatric topics in preparation for the Pediatric Board Exam.

4.The LSU Department of Pediatrics presents Grand Rounds weekly on Wednesdays, with presentations by local, as well as visiting, faculty and PGY-3 pediatric and PGY-4 medicine-pediatric residents.

6.Morbidity and Mortality conferences are held quarterly with presentations done by residents and supervisory faculty members.

7.  Pediatric Emergency medicine conferences and Journal Club are held monthly.  The monthly conferences are attended by all residents rotating on the Emergency Medicine unit during that month, as well as, one or more PER faculty members.  The monthly Journal Clubs are open to all residents and faculty and are held in the evenings at a faculty/resident home.

8.  Monthly Board Review sessions are prepared and presented by the Chief Residents during noon conference slots towards the end of each month.  Interns/Residents are expected to prepare in advance for each session and are tested on the topic content.

9.  Pediatric residents are encouraged to attend all conferences except when caring for critically ill patients. They are expected to participate in the above clinical presentations and to lead several topic discussions during the course of their training.
