Requirements

Research projects must be related to physical medicine and rehabilitation, such as EMG and nerve conduction studies, musculoskeletal medicine, stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, pain management studies and topics related to pediatric rehabilitation. Research projects may be a retrospective chart review, case studies or prospective clinical study.

PGY-II residents must submit a written proposal within the time frame outlined in the section “Suggested time-line for research proposals" at the bottom of this page.

Senior residents are required to present their accomplishments at the “PM&R Annual Resident Research Day”. Poster or slide presentations at regional or national meetings is encouraged but is not required.

Residents are required to submit a research paper of publishable quality during their senior year. Publication in peer reviewed journals is encouraged, but is not required.


Suggested Timeline for Research Proposals

To facilitate the research experience, the following deadlines have been established for submitting documentation of reasearch to the research office.  These are:

September 1st: An initial brief written proposal
November 1st: Detailed research proposal including methodology, study design and bench mark for each research component
January 1st: Progress report of ongoing research
March 1st: Abstract submission and/or planned presentation
April 15th: A completed report on research activity
May 1st: A PowerPoint presentation
Month of May: Annual Resident's Research Day

Residents can contact the research office for assistance. An accountability log will be maintained in the research office.
