The Infant, Child, and Adolescent Psychiatry Section headed by Dr. Martin Drell began in 1987. The two-year ACGME Accredited Fellowship Training Program began in 1989 and accepts 3 residents per year. The program accepts candidates from all areas of the country, and graduates mostly stay in Louisiana in a variety of jobs in the private and public sector.

The program offers diverse clinical experience in Public, Private, and Academic/Research working with infants, children, adolescents, and their families. The training is balanced between both psychotherapy and psychopharmacologic and offers many research opportunities as well. The program prides itself on provide a well-balanced and flexible, individually based child psychiatry experience that aims at developing clinical excellence. 

Each program provides its residents with information relating to access to eligibility for certification by the relevant certifying board.
