Welcome to the Louisiana State University  Health Sciences Center School of Medicine Section of  Psychology homepage. The Section of Psychology has made valuable contributions to LSUHSC relating to teaching/supervision, scholarship/research, clinical/service work, and administrative/community work. The Section currently consists of 8 full time psychologists licensed in clinical psychology and over 20 psychologists appointed to the clinical faculty. It is part of a multidisciplinary Department in which there is a productive and rewarding collaboration among psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers.

The Section is responsible for teaching and supervising medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows, social work trainees, as well as residents and trainees from other departments. We are particularly proud of our pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology, directed by William Walker, Ph.D., which is offered to 6 graduate students in clinical psychology from across the country. We place significant emphasis on quality supervised clinical experience in this program. We also offer post-doctoral fellowships in clinical psychology. The psychology faculty are actively engaged in programmatic research, resulting in peer reviewed journal articles, books, book chapters, convention presentations, as well as many funded grants and contracts. The psychology faculty provides a wide range of diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultation services to a diverse patient population ranging from infants to adults. These clinical services are provided in public and private inpatient and outpatient settings in collaboration with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other mental health professionals. We also chair and serve on many departmental, medical school, and health sciences center committees, as well as consult with numerous community agencies. The Section of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry is a rewarding and enriching environment in which to work. There are wonderful opportunities for professional and personal growth and development in the unique culture of New Orleans.
