Rapid Detoxification is a 6-8 hour procedure under general anesthesia. During that time period, the individual experiences rapid withdrawal from opiates. Although modern general anesthesia has been proven safe, there are risks during any anesthesia procedure.
The Rapid Detoxification process begins with a pre-procedure psychological screening visit. After psychological approval as a candidate for this procedure, the pre-procedure labs, EKG and X-Rays are completed. Again, after review and approval to continue with the procedure by the physician the procedure is scheduled.
A surgical intensive care team is involved in the procedure within the intensive care setting. The primary team consists of: physician, health psychologies, intensive care RNs, respiratory therapist and pharmacist.
