Vascular (UH/Touro)

Staff: Drs. Hernan Bazan, Robert Batson, Mal Sheahan, Claudie Sheahan, Tapash Palit

Hospitals: Touro, University, Ochsner Baptist, Children's Hospital

What is the typical work week for students on this rotation?

Monday, Tuesday:

7:30 AM start - Cases in the interventional suite/cath lab and OR (mainly Touro)

Wednesday:

7 AM – Vascular Conf at West Jeff; Once a month, conference with Ochsner Cardiology

8:30 AM till 4 pm – Office hours/clinic – Outpatient evaluation of the patient with vascular disease; Utilization of vascular lab for non-invasive, physiologic testing

Thursday:

7 AM – Departmental Grand Rounds

8 AM – Departmental M&M

Friday:

7:30 AM – OR, cath lab at Touro, UH, or Children’s

 

How are students evaluated?

 

Effort, problem-based learning, clinical presentation skills, Professionalism.

 

Other Important Info for students:

Student must be driven – Primarily will be at Touro, but clinic is in the Baptist campus; will need to move to UH and, occasionally, Children’s Hospital.  Weekly conferences (Wed 7 AM) at WJMC.
Students are expected to take in-house call at UH for general surgery trauma one Friday night and be available for nighttime vascular emergencies every third night
