Surgical Curriculum

All students are expected to master the following medical topics by the end of their clerkship. Students acquire the majority of this knowledge through self-directed reading, building on a framework provided by attending physicians, housestaff, lectures, case studies, and most importantly, the patients they care for during their rotation.

Responsibility for an Actual Patient (AP) requires that the student complete a History/Physical Exam/Diagnostic Evaluation/Management Plan OR follow the patient daily on rounds OR perform a clinical visit.  If a student sees a Virtual Patient (VP), he/she must perform a complete History/Physical/Diagnostic Evaluation/Management Plan.  For Case Discussions (CD), the student must participate in a focused, organized discussion with a faculty facilitator.
