The surgery clerkship consists of a twelve-week block. One rotation consists of six weeks on the general surgery service at Earl K. Long, University Medical Center, University Hospital (mixed general/trauma), or Ochsner Kenner.
Students rotate on the Surgical Teams at various hospitals in the New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette areas. Six weeks of general surgery and two three-week blocks of surgical subspecialties make up the rotation.
The availability of subspecialties is determined by the location to which you were assigned by the office of Student Affairs.
The Clerkship Program makes every possible effort to match students with the subspecialty of their choice, though this cannot be guaranteed.
Please see Student Rotation Information for more information on each subspecialty.
