Bio

Dr. Saju Joseph was educated in his home state of California and graduated from the University of California at Irvine with honors, achieving his Bachelor’s of Science degree in 1997. Dr Joseph then moved across country where he attended medical school at TuftsUniversity in Boston. He graduated from Tufts in 2002. Dr. Joseph did a general surgical residency at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from 2002-2006. During his general surgical residency he was also a teaching fellow at the HarvardUniversity.        
    

Following his residency in general surgery, Dr. Joseph was selected as a Specialist Registrar in Transplant and Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. During his fellowship, Dr. Joseph was exposed to a wide array of complex liver and pancreatic surgical problems and was part of a team that performed a number of liver auto transplants.

 

In his new role in the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Department of Surgery in New Orleans, Dr. Joseph will be developing a Hepatobiliary service at the LSU Interim Hospitaland will be part of the existing NOLA NETS surgical team in Kenner, LA (Drs. J. Philip Boudreaux and Yi-Zarn Wang).  This team performs extremely complex liver, mesenteric root and pancreatic surgery. As a member of the NOLA NETS group, Dr. Joseph will help develop a variety of novel therapies for patients with widespread hepatic malignancies. These include plans to develop liver auto transplantation, in-situ isolated liver perfusion and ex-vivo perfusion of tumor-bearing livers that would otherwise not be able to be cytoreduced. Dr. Joseph has significant research experience and will be the newest member of the novel therapies laboratory directed by Dr. Eugene A. Woltering
