Bio
Joanne Maffei, MD is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at LSU Health New Orleans in
the Department of Medicine Section of Infectious Diseases/HIV.
Dr. Maffei graduated from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1988. She completed
Medicine Residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1991, a fellowship
year in Infectious Diseases at LSU School of Medicine in 1992, and a fellowship in
Infectious Diseases at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1994. She returned
to LSU in 1994 to join the Faculty of LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans.
She serves as the Medical Director of the University Medical Center New Orleans Infection
Prevention and Control Department. She also attends on the inpatient Musculoskeletal
Infectious Diseases Consult Service at University Medical Center New Orleans. She
sees outpatients at the University Medical Center New Orleans Infectious Diseases
Clinic.
She has an interest in prevention of hospital associated infections, control of Tuberculosis
in a hospital setting, bioemergency preparedness, and prevention of blood and body
fluid exposures in healthcare workers.
